How to Set a Spooky Halloween Table on a Budget
Gauze, thrift-store silver and dollar-store goblets add up to a haunted dinner table for around thirty-five dollars.
A dramatic Halloween table does not need an expensive budget. Most of the look can come from discount stores, things you already own and end-of-season sales.
Shop smart
Dollar stores and big-box craft aisles carry most of what you need. Buy decorations at a deep discount right after Halloween and store them for next year.
1. Start with a creepy runner
Stretch spooky gauze or cheesecloth down the center of the table and pull it apart to look like cobwebs. Two pieces will cover a longer table.

2. Layer the place settings
Tarnished silver trays or chargers make a moody base. Stack a black plate on top, then a smaller themed dessert plate. Plastic or glass goblets in black or smoky colors finish each setting for very little money.
3. Build the centerpiece with height
Use a tray in the middle of the table and raise part of it on an upturned bowl or a cake stand. Add miniature black branches, a small skull, a pitcher of faux black greenery and tall candlesticks. Varying the height keeps the eye moving.
4. Add a coffin-shaped tray
A coffin tray works as both decor and serving dish. Fill it with dark chocolates, black olives or anything that fits the theme.
5. Style the hutch
Old glass bottles with handwritten apothecary labels, a few candles and some faux spider webs turn a sideboard or hutch into part of the scene.
Finishing touches
Dim the overhead light and rely on candles and a few warm lamps. Low lighting hides the inexpensive materials and makes the whole room feel more theatrical.
